The Geoff Keighley-hosted Opening Night Live event at Gamescom just wrapped up. Arguably the biggest announcement was the closer: a remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD Projekt Red that’s launching in September. But the show also featured a bunch of trailers for others games, including Gears of War: E-Day, Capcom’s upcoming Mega Man sidescroller, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
The event took place ahead of a potentially very big fall for the games industry. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release on November 19th, and the rest of the games industry is largely steering clear of GTA VI’s launch. That means the next several weeks are packed with major releases — and the calendar just got even busier with the Witcher 3 remaster. GTA VI wasn’t shown, but that’s not really a surprise: that game is set to have a reveal event of its own on Thursday.

The Witcher 3 is getting a remaster
CD Projekt Red is remastering The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the hit RPG that first launched in 2015, and the updated game will be available starting September 29th. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered will bring improvements to visuals and combat, a “reimagined” skill tree, and more, and it also includes the first two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Remastered will be a free upgrade for players who own the base game on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X / S. With the launch of Remastered, The Witcher 3 will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

In a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Square Enix showed off footage of the gargantuan Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapons. The game is set to launch in spring 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X / S.
- The new game from the creator of Inscryption launches next year.
Daniel Mullins’ bizarre-looking (complimentary) Pony Island 2: Panda Circus launches on April 27th, 2027. That gives you plenty of time to catch up on the original Pony Island.
- Path of Exile II’s 1.0 launch is set for December 11th.
The dungeon crawler launched in early access in December 2024, and the 1.0 version is nearly here. When 1.0 hits, the game will go free to play.
- Building a city brick by brick.
Lego Skylines is a new city builder from Cities: Skylines publisher Paradox Interactive, and it seems like it’s got a good mix of traditional city management and that signature Lego whimsy. This is one we at The Verge will be very excited to check out.
- Crazy Taxis.
Sega just showed off multiplayer for its Crazy Taxi reboot in a new trailer. It sure looks like Crazy Taxi — which isn’t a bad thing, IMO. The game is set to launch in 2027.
- Mewgenics is coming to PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X / S.
The cat-themed strategy roguelike hits consoles on September 8th. It launched on PC earlier this year, and I highly recommend reading our interview with developer Edmund McMillen.
Opening Night Live also featured a musical performance of a song from the game. It ruled.
- Proudly made in Ukraine.
Ukraine-based 4A Games showed off a short, gritty gameplay trailer for Metro 2039, its latest first-person shooter in the long-running series. It’ll debut February 2027 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The trailer is age-gated, so you’ll have to click here to view it.
- Agent 47… smoke weed every day.
The Doggfather comes to Hitman: World of Assassination. Noted gamer Snoop Dogg is hitting ’em in more ways than one as the next celebrity elusive target in “The Herbalist,” which you can play for free starting August 27th.
- Lots of gameplay from a new D&D game.
Unlike Baldur’s Gate 3, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is a more action-focused title — as shown in a new trailer, it appears to take inspiration from games like Jedi: Fallen Order and Control. It’s launching in 2027.
- PUBG gets a little edgelord with it.
PUBG: Ded.Net is a new multiplayer FPS with roguelite progression… and also a very in-your-face vibe. I love PUBG, but this announcement trailer was a lot to take in. We’ll see if it’s as satisfying to play Ded.Net as it was to get a chicken dinner back in the day.
- The new Control looks out of control.
I don’t fully understand what’s happening in Remedy’s Gamescom trailer for Control Resonant, but I do know I want to play it. The game releases on September 24th.
- More Mega Man.
Capcom just showed off a new trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override, an upcoming sidescroller in the series. It’s set to launch in 2027.
There’s also a silly-looking Mega Man skin coming to Pragmata.
- Crimson Desert is getting an “enhanced” version.
The update includes new story moments, voiceovers in more languages, and “all post-launch content to date.” It’s a free update.
- A look at the cast of Silent Hill: Townfall.
Following last week’s extended gameplay trailer, we got a briefer look at Silent Hill: Townfall, this time highlighting the game’s cast. It includes Jovan Adepo (3 Body Problem, It: Welcome to Derry), Kezia Burrows (Observation), and Terry O’Quinn (Lost).
- Here’s the story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day.
The game, an Xbox console exclusive, launches on October 6th.
- MonHoYoverse.
HoYoverse, the developer of games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, is making a new game that looks like a mix of Monster Hunter and Elden Ring. It’s called Nodusfall.
- The new Onimusha’s demo is getting bigger.
Capcom is expanding the demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword with a new location ahead of the full game launch on September 4th. Catch a new trailer on YouTube.
- The Battletoads team is making an art game.
An art-themed game, anyway. Murals is an “isometric action-adventure” with a hand-painted style that really captures its messed-up fairy tale vibe. It’s set to launch in 2027.
- RollerCoaster Tycoon is back.
Atari just announced that RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks, a new game in the classic theme park simulator franchise, is launching in early access on Steam “soon.” See you at the park.
GeForce Now is getting support for the Steam Controller

With Steam Controller support, you’ll be able to play games with Valve’s great new gamepad when using the GeForce Now app on your Steam Deck or Steam Machine. If you’re using GeForce Now on Windows or macOS, support for the Steam Controller is coming “later,” Nvidia says.
GeForce Now is getting a few other upgrades, too. Nvidia will soon add new DLSS 4.5 controls for DLSS Super Resolution, Dynamic Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction. (Ray Reconstruction is also officially launching for RTX GPUs in early access.) The previously-announced GOG single sign on is now available. The service will come to more of Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks “later this year,” and you’ll be able to buy a subscription through Amazon. And as of last week, you can officially use GeForce Now on Firefox.

CD Projekt Red has been working on its next mainline Witcher title for years and has shown videos of it, but now the studio is providing a target release window for when the game might actually come out.
There’s more new Witcher to come before The Witcher 4, though. At this week’s Gamescom event, CD Projekt Red will be showing off its upcoming Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past, which is scheduled to release sometime in 2027. Songs of the Past is also set to be part of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event hosted by Geoff Keighley, which kicks off at 2PM ET on Tuesday.
