GTA VI is getting an ‘extended look’ at the end of August

We’ll be getting an in-depth preview of Grand Theft Auto VI very soon: Rockstar announced this morning that it will be airing an “extended look” at the game on August 27th. The preview will stream on YouTube at 9PM ET, as per usual, but will also be shown earlier for Netflix subscribers, premiering at 3PM ET. (Netflix and Rockstar previously partnered to release the original GTA trilogy on mobile.) There are no other details just yet.

“The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s VP of Nonfiction Series, said in a statement.

Of course, the new GTA has been on the way for quite some time, and is launching well over a decade after GTA V, which went on to become one of the best-selling games of all time, launching across three console generations and PC. As of May, GTA V has sold “nearly” 230 million copies, according to Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two, and it remains a force on Steam and Twitch to this day. Rockstar confirmed it was working on a successor in 2022, and following a massive leak of gameplay videos, the studio released the first GTA VI trailer in 2023. That was followed by a second that came out last year.

Rockstar hasn’t been entirely quiet in the years between GTA V and VI, releasing steady updates for GTA Online along with a little game called Red Dead Redemption 2. But the anticipation for the next GTA has still had plenty of time to build up. And after a few delays, GTA VI is finally slated to launch on the PS5 and Xbox on November 19th, a release date that has forced most other developers and publishers to move out of the way.
