It’s been over a decade and two console generations since GTA V came out, and its sequel is still a work in progress. GTA VI has faced multiple delays, with developer Rockstar Games bumping back its predicted release date twice, eventually shifting to November 19th, 2026, a full year after its originally planned fall 2025 release window. Early official glimpses offered a look at the game’s protagonists, Jason and Lucia, who players will navigate around Vice City as outlaws on the run after a job goes south.
Preorders have opened for the digital code-only game, offering the $79.99 standard edition and $99.99 Ultimate Edition on both PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
Rockstar Games has also responded to “CyberLeek” posts that showed sequences of the game, calling them heartbreaking and saying, “…this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.” At about the same time, the leakers released yet another clip.
Now a half-hour “extended look” has arrived full of gameplay slices and cutscenes that’s available for viewing on Netflix, as well as all over other social media channels in reaction videos before it hits YouTube at 9PM — here are some of our first impressions.

- Twitch CEO: GTA VI multiplayer is coming in 2027.
Bloomberg interviewed Twitch CEO Dan Clancy:
“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,” Clancy said in an interview. “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”
In an investor call today, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also said that PC is “becoming more and more important to our company over time,” according to GamesRadar. Perhaps we won’t have to wait too long for a PC version of GTA VI?
Update: Added new Zelnick comment.
Grand Theft Auto VI’s soundtrack will feature 34 brand-new tracks

Image: Rockstar GamesAfter teasing a music-related reveal a few days ago, Rockstar has officially announced the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto VI. Called Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the soundtrack will feature 34 songs, which Rockstar describes as “brand-new, original tracks.” Based on the first six singles, which are available today, it seems that the collection will span a pretty wide range of genres, with everyone from Keith Richards to Travis Scott contributing.
Here’s what’s been confirmed so far:

It’s no surprise that there will be plenty of music in Grand Theft Auto VI’s in-game radio stations, but now we have an idea of who exactly will be featured. Kotaku has compiled a list of artists — ranging from Keith Richards to Yung Lean — who have started teasing their participation.
Nintendo isn’t scared of GTA VI

Image: NintendoThere’s never really been a game like Grand Theft Auto VI before, one that has completely altered the lineup of games around it. Everyone, it seems, is scared of going up against Grand Theft Auto VI. Everyone, that is, except for Nintendo.
The company held a 30-minute showcase this morning focused entirely on its Legend of Zelda franchise, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. We got a title for the live-action movie, a series of orchestral concerts, and a very glittery special edition of the Switch 2. But most of the runtime was dedicated to the upcoming Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time. There was a new trailer and a lengthy gameplay video that showed how Nintendo is approaching this remake, which includes more realistic graphics and new features like a free camera. But perhaps the most notable detail is when the game launches: November 5th.

The new DualSense controllers will launch alongside GTA VI on November 19th. They come in black and white with a sparkly blue-purple sheen surrounding the thumbsticks and extending into the grips, as well as a “VI” logo stamped on the touchpad.
You can preorder the new controllers for $84.99 starting September 10th at 10AM ET.
- Rockstar introduces “the next evolution of GTA V roleplay” with Nopixel V.
Even while developing GTA VI, Rockstar has also had an eye on popular mods and RP communities for its old game, and today it revealed this trailer for Nopixel V. Announced a year ago, it builds on GTA V Enhanced for PC with a heavily modified city and support for extensive editing by players.
A closed beta for invited players opens September 8th, as we continue to wait for details about any future GTA VI multiplayer or PC options.
- You can download a higher-quality ‘extended look’ at GTA VI.
The 27-minute Grand Theft Auto VI preview is already available to stream online, but Rockstar will also let you download the video directly from its website to avoid any compression issues. Just bear in mind that the file isn’t exactly small at 14.2 GB.
The GTA VI ‘extended look’ is now streaming on YouTube

Image: Rockstar GamesRockstar has officially published its “extended look” at Grand Theft Auto VI on YouTube and on its website, as promised. The in-depth preview, which “entirely” features footage captured from the PS5 version of the game, initially premiered on Netflix at 3PM ET. But because Rockstar allowed creators to post reaction videos, you’ve technically been able to watch the video on YouTube before the studio’s official upload.
The nearly 27-minute preview largely focuses more on atmosphere, protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and highlighting locations in the game instead of diving deep on specific game mechanics. It feels more like slices of a movie than a video game trailer. But there are a few sections showing off playable shootouts and police car chases as well as activities like shooting a basketball and scuba diving. Other outlets that got previews from Rockstar have more details on gameplay that weren’t included in the video.

Image: Rockstar GamesI think I know why Rockstar Games debuted its “extended look” of Grand Theft Auto VI on Netflix instead of immediately dropping it for free on YouTube. Unlike most video game trailers, the almost 27-minute preview of GTA VI felt more like a slice of a prestige crime drama than any video game trailer that I’ve ever seen. To make a new game that lasts another decade or more and potentially rivals the success of its predecessor, Rockstar is clearly trying to further blur the lines between Hollywood and video games.
The line between games and movies has been getting consistently fuzzier. Look no further than this year’s James Bond game, 007 First Light, which has the snappy pacing, acting, and cinematography of a great action film. And TV shows and movies are increasingly pulling from video games for inspiration, to say nothing of entire TV and movie franchises being built around successful video games. Now, a video game trailer has wedged between prestige TV and streaming hit movies — after watching the GTA VI preview, Netflix is suggesting I watch Breaking Bad next.

A few publications and other outlets got to watch a Rockstar North co-lead play the game, and their coverage has a bunch of information about gameplay that wasn’t included in Netflix’s cinematic extended look.
GTA VI looks just as great as we could hope for

Image: Rockstar GamesNetflix and Rockstar Games finally debuted their “extended look” at Grand Theft Auto VI. It showed that the new game looks to keep much of the spirit of GTA — exploration, driving, crimes, shooting, and cinematic story scenes. But everything just looks much better than previous entries, with impressive graphics, densely packed rooms, and detailed environments. The footage was captured on PS5, according to the end of the video.
A key focus of the game seems to be how protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos work together. In one scene, it appears you play as Duval as he hangs out of the window of a car that Caminos is driving so he can shoot at police chasing after them. Later, though, it looks like the player controls Caminos as the driver while Duval and another character keep shooting the police.

The preview is scheduled to debut on Netflix at 3PM ET, though creators can stream it as long as they talk over it. Starting at 9PM ET, you’ll be able to watch the preview on YouTube and the GTA VI website.
- Reminder: Grand Theft Auto VI exists in its own universe.
My colleague Andrew Webster wrote that this weekend, and I’ve been thinking about it today in the leadup to the today’s 26-minute “extended look” at the game. Skipping discs? Warping the video game release calendar? Massive leaks? A Netflix special — that creators can livestream? All part of the GTA VI saga.

Andrew Webster - Streamers can host Netflix’s GTA VI event as long as they talk over it.
Last night, Rockstar shared these streaming guidelines ahead of today’s GTA VI “extended look”:
Quick clarification: you are free to livestream An Extended Look from 3 p.m. ET on August 27 providing you adhere to platform-specific guidance and you do not simply restream or repost the unedited video in full without context or commentary.
- Rockstar wants to turn actual Miami into Vice City.
The Miamian obtained a Rockstar pitch deck through a public records request that proposes Vice City-themed takeovers of places like Miami’s airport, Metrorail stations, and some public areas.
A spokesperson for Miami-Dade’s mayor confirmed to The Miamian that there had been conversations but said “Nothing has been formally agreed to or approved.”
- Are you ready for today’s GTA VI preview?
The “extended look” coming to Netflix and YouTube will be 26 minutes long and feature gameplay captured on the PlayStation 5, according to Netflix. The preview will first appear on Netflix at 3PM ET before arriving on YouTube at 9PM ET.
- GTA VI just got some more competition.
November 19th will also be the launch date for Volvy’s Adventure: Reslimed, a new retro-styled platformer that stars Devolver’s weird mascot. And both GTA VI and Volvy’s Adventure will be going up against November 19th’s launch of The Binding of Isaac: Repentance + Online on consoles that same day. Big day.
- Cyberleek responds to Rockstar with another GTA VI leak.
At about the same time Rockstar Games released a statement about leaked Grand Theft Auto VI videos, saying they’re “heartbreaking for our team,” another clip appeared on the internet from the source of the leaks, although it may have been posted before Rockstar’s statement. In this one, while what sounds like a Bad Bunny song plays in the background, the Jason character carjacks a vehicle with a “Rideout Customs” logo across the back window and attempts to evade the police, before the other main character, Lucia, appears briefly in a cutscene.
The leakers responded to comments about their bad driving in a caption, but didn’t say anything specific about Rockstar’s statement.
Rockstar finally responds to ‘heartbreaking’ GTA VI leaks

Image: Rockstar GamesRockstar Games has released its first official statement following days of sustained leaks of footage from Grand Theft Auto VI, calling the period “heartbreaking for our team.” Not long after Rockstar posted, another leaked video appeared, this time showing the Jason character pulling off the series’ trademark move of carjacking a box Chevy-like vehicle with a “Rideout Customs” logo across the back window and trying to evade the police. At the end, the other main character of the game, Lucia, appears briefly in what looks like a cutscene.
“It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time,” the studio said in its statement published Wednesday morning on social media. “We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has — from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.”

A new round of leaked video clips has surfaced, and they appear to show that the well-populated areas from Rockstar’s trailers will be featured in the actual game. Like all of the leaked gameplay before, they feature only the Jason character, walking through a crowded nightclub, and cycling down a beach.
The last clip takes him to “Game Horde” with plenty of used PS5s and physical copies of games lining the shelves, readily available for rental or trade, even if GTA VI won’t be.
- The GTA VI “CyberLeek” leaks keep coming.
Despite Rockstar and Microsoft’s push to find the source, the GTA VI leaks continue to flow. These short clips show a player going on a mission to steal a conspiracy theorist’s truck with a bathtub full of gas, visiting a strip club and nudist town, and flying over Vice City at night.
Other than boosting a crypto scheme, messages from the leaker(s) are calling for gamers to go to Rockstar offices and threatening to leak video of the other main character, Lucia.

Four years ago, fans got a long-awaited look at Grand Theft Auto VI with a huge cache of videos that showed off Rockstar’s latest open-world epic. There were 90 videos in total, providing a glimpse at the next-generation take on Vice City, introducing the game’s new dual protagonists, and generally showing off the crime-fueled mayhem the series is known for. The twist? This wasn’t some official reveal. The videos were part of a massive leak in September 2022 that ultimately ended with a life sentence in a secure hospital for the hacker, and they dropped months before Rockstar properly unveiled GTA VI to the world with its debut trailer.
Read Article >Take-Two requests subpoenas over GTA VI gameplay leaks

Image: Rockstar GamesFollowing several apparent video leaks of Grand Theft Auto VI, Take-Two Interactive requested to be able to subpoena Microsoft and Discord over content that “infringes copyrights” held for the game, Kotaku reports. In the requests, filed on Thursday, Take-Two says copyrighted material includes “audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements” and it is looking to identify “alleged infringers at issue.” The requests give Microsoft and Discord until September 4th to produce the requested information.
The requests were approved on Friday. However, Discord marketing director Ryan Rigney said on Monday that the company “has not yet been served with a subpoena from Take Two.” On X, Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet said Friday that “We are working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to support efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property.”

A new clip shared by the person or group identifying themselves as “CyberLeek” shows Jason Duval, one of the game’s protagonists, shooting the word “LEEK” into a wall, which suggests an actual copy of the game has escaped Rockstar Games’ containment. It’s the latest of several leaks ahead of GTA VI’s launch on November 19th.
GTA VI keeps leaking ahead of its gameplay premiere

Image: Rockstar GamesClips of what appears to be Grand Theft Auto VI have hit the internet, possibly spoiling aspects of the game ahead of Rockstar Games’ deep dive debuting on Netflix next week and its long-awaited launch in November.
I’ve seen three clips seemingly showing off the game, though two have been pulled from the site I saw them on “due to a copyright claim.” The first clip (now removed) was a quiet scene that mostly focused on Jason Duval, one the game’s two protagonists, shooting a basketball into a hoop. Another clip (also removed) featured more of the crime-focused gameplay you’d expect from GTA, including Duval hitting a person with a wrench, and also showed the return of a six-star Wanted system.
