There’s a bunch of references to the games, including Mario and Luigi using fire flowers and Birdo from Super Mario Bros. 2, but it’s Yoshi that’s the obvious star. Oh, and he’s pretty dang cute, too. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming to theaters April 1st.

Belkin’s $100 Charging Case Pro for the Switch 2 looks similar to the $70 version; it’s a thick zip-up case with a 10,000mAh battery, plus pockets for cartridges and an AirTag. But the battery here, cleverly redesigned as a folding stand that magnetically snaps into the case, makes it feel worth the higher cost.

What better way to spend Sunday morning than with a fresh Super Mario Galaxy movie trailer. Nintendo is streaming its next Direct showcase for the sequel on January 25th at 9AM ET. Hopefully the talking flower will make an appearance. For a refresher, here’s the most recent look.
Look, it was already funny enough that a guy called Doug Bowser was the big boss at Nintendo of America, but his new role at Hasbro is getting a little much.
palm-pre-was-robbed:
So Bowser is going to take over Hasbro and use Magic, Dungeons and Dragons to expand his empire?
Yeah, that tracks.

Nintendo released a free update to Donkey Kong Country Returns HD that adds Dixie Kong as a playable character, a “Turbo Attack” mode where you “race through high-speed versions of each level,” and, on Switch 2, “enhanced resolution, higher-definition graphics, and quicker load times.”
Those red screens contributed to the Virtual Boy being one of Nintendo’s biggest failures, but with a high-speed camera running at up to 1,750,000 fps, The Slow Mo Guys have shared a fascinating look at how the console produced 3D images using two thin strips of red LEDs and moving mirrors.

Long after Spotify’s Wrapped, or other annual data look-back features from PlayStation and Steam (but not Xbox), Nintendo has announced its Switch 2025 Year in Review tracker.
Other than sharing your results with the #NintendoSwitch2025 hashtag, there’s also an option to select GOTY, or go even further back in your Switch / Switch 2 history to the first game you played.

It’s just one of two Game Boy-styled mini-controllers that cradle your phone at CES 2026. This one plugs directly into your phone with USB-C, is coming summer 2026, but doesn’t have a price yet. GameSir has a Bluetooth one for $35 that’s coming March and cradles your phone. (YouTube video version here.)
If you have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, you can now play the 2005 GameCube release as part of the Switch 2’s collection of GameCube classics, according to a press release. Here’s Nintendo’s Japanese trailer for the launch. (I haven’t seen an English one yet.)
It seemed inevitable given how many alternate versions of the original Switch’s Joy-Cons Nintendo released over the years, but starting on February 12th, 2026, light green (right) and light purple (left) Switch 2 Joy-Cons will be available. Like the standard Switch 2 Joy-Con two-pack, the new colors will be $99.99.
Update, January 8th: Added official pricing.

“The Hulu app is no longer available in the Nintendo Switch eShop with support for the application ending on February 5, 2026,” Nintendo says in a support document. It originally launched way back in 2017.
The accessory maker launched a new Kickstarter today for Genki Grips: a modular grip system for Nintendo’s latest console. A $99 pledge gets you get a kit with solid and split shells (that lets the Joy-Cons detach) plus multiple sets of grips with various designs you can regularly swap to improve your hold on the handheld based on the game you’re playing.

That’s according to a support doc, at least. Based on Digital Foundry’s video, the input latency for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, which launched earlier this month, seemed pretty bad.

Ahead of The Game Awards, Compulsion Games has announced that South of Midnight is going multi-platform. The southern gothic action-adventure game, first released on Xbox earlier this year, is coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2026. Come for the incredibly cool southern folklore inspired narrative, but stay for your adorable companion Crouton and the yarn-spinnin’ Catfish.
Wario World is now available as part of the GameCube games you can play with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. Nintendo’s trailer for the release has hilariously dramatic music that I’m guessing will rival anything shown at tomorrow’s Game Awards.
You can try to get one on Nintendo’s website, as spotted by Wario64, though it’s only available for paid Nintendo Switch Online members. Good luck snagging one.

Alongside today’s Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release for the Switch and Switch 2 consoles, music from the game is also available on the Nintendo Music app. Judging by our review and AMA responses, you might need those tunes to keep you entertained while exploring the vast in-game desert.
But first, you gotta ask ‘em. My colleague Andrew Webster and I will host a Metroid Prime 4 AMA at 1PM ET for Verge subscribers here. Get your questions in now but please, nothing spoilery. I don’t want Samus coming after me on her cool bike...or do I?
We played Metroid Prime 4, ask us anything

The latest Metroid nails the mood and action, but its new additions often feel out of place.
While, the latest trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s upcoming Mega Dimension expansion introduces a new kind of Mega Lucario, the real surprise is that Mewtwo has been added to the game as part of a new side quest that you can play starting today.
