SK Hynix says memory shortages will last through 2030.

It’s a time frame the company has suggested before. It says a “virtuous cycle” (well, virtuous for memory manufacturers at least) is seeing AI productivity gains lead to increased demand, maintaining pressure on supply even as SK Hynix ramps up production. It’s already signed agreements to sell more than half the RAM it’ll produce through 2028.

NY Governor Kathy Hochul signs law banning harmful AI chatbot features for kids.

Under the law, AI companies must block chatbots from pretending they’re humans when chatting with a user under 18. They also restrict other inappropriate conversations with kids, including those that involve flattery, unprompted emotional questions, and encouragement surrounding secret-keeping.

The law requires AI companies to verify the ages of users and include “at least one option that does not depend solely on government ID.” Last month, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani banned younger schoolkids from using AI.

Discord is turning on websites for all Discoverable Servers.

Discord acknowledges that long-form conversations that can be popular on message boards, like help posts and theory crafting, have moved to Discord where they’re “inaccessible to the wider internet.”

The option to make the websites already existed, but turning them on for all Discoverable Servers, a change set for November 16th, could make some information buried inside Discord easier to find. Admins can opt channels out from showing up.

Rockstar workers will vote on union recognition right around GTA VI’s launch.

The union vote will take place from November 12th through November 26th, according to an emailed press release from the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB). GTA VI is scheduled to release on November 19th.

If the staffers vote in favor, “the Rockstar Game Workers Union will become the biggest recognised union in the UK games sector,” the IWGB says.

A screenshot from the IWGB Rockstar Game Workers Union. The text reads: “Following months of negotiations, recognition of the IWGB Rockstar Game Workers Union will be put to an employee vote lasting from the 12th to the 26th of November. The ballot will coincide with the game studio’s most anticipated release of all time, Grand Theft Auto VI, on the 19th of November. The terms of the recognition deal, agreed upon by workers and management, would give workers a say over issues including pay and bonuses, overtime, redundancies, flexible working arrangements, and generative Al policies. If employees vote in favour of recognition, they will have the biggest recognised union in the UK games sector.“

Mario 64, but you can *pull him out of the screen* and play with him in your real world.

We have mixed feelings about AI, but 0:22 in this video made my inner kid jump for joy! This is what I hoped Magic Leap would be. Trump wants everyone to stop saying “AI.”

The president asked when The Wall Street Journal would swap the term for “Super Intelligence.” Legally, he can only force executive branch agencies to make the switch, but in a Truth Social post, he says he’ll soon “be officially BANNING the term, ‘AI/Artificial Intelligence,’ in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy.”

Social media post reading: “When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be. In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, “AI/Artificial Intelligence,” in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP”

This game will probably be the closest any of us get to having our own Tesla Roadster.

The game, which is called Roadflip and was made by Shopify software engineer Niko Draca, allows you to drive the Roadster up the vertical ramp, and then flip around as many times as you want before using the cold-gas thrusters to land safely on the ground — which, as it turns out, is harder than it sounds! The more flips you do, the higher your score. “Think Tony Hawk... but with a Roadster,” Draca said in an email. I have yet to land without exploding.

Another senator wants Meta to reverse its business term revisions.

Adam Schiff joins Sen. Marsha Blackburn in expressing concern, urging Meta to “compensate creators and publishers for their work” after the company’s updated terms seemingly gave itself permission to train its AI on news sites. Those changes have since been tweaked and pushed back until November 20th, but Schiff says “a delay isn’t enough.”
