Google will let more developers make apps that plug into Search and Gemini.

With the new “Connected Apps” platform, developers can submit apps for people to use within Gemini and Search. This will allow developers to launch integrations similar to the ones OpenTable and Instacart built into Google’s AI tools.

Developers in the US can join the public beta waitlist starting today, which also offers ways to track metrics like traffic and latency.

The GitHub Copilot app is getting a big update.

Along with support for projects, which lets you assign Copilot a task across multiple repos, the GitHub Copilot app now allows you to pick up your work where you left off when you switch to other devices. You can now create reusable AI automations within the GitHub Copilot app as well.

Another election year, another tech company war room.

OpenAI is the latest tech company (and according to Politico, the first major AI company) to set up a command center for fighting election misinfo and abuse of its systems, approaching the second major AI-era US election:

The Election Operations Center will begin running this week until all votes are counted, to identify the potential spread of misinformation or other efforts to disrupt the elections. It’s meant in large part to combat abuse of the company’s own tools like ChatGPT, monitoring real-time events and fielding reports of unexpected behavior from models or cases of suspected violations of their platform’s terms.

Would you put Amazon’s smart alarm clock in your bedroom?

The Echo Time is cute, has great clock faces, and is designed for the bedroom — no cameras allowed. I’m hoping it will fill the Echo Dot-with-clock-shaped hole in my life, and its design is a fun throwback to the 2017 OG spot.

But $200?? Here’s my hands-on video and first impressions:

Moog is making amps for its synths now.

The world has plenty of guitar amps, but amps designed for synths are much rarer. Moog’s new Model 210 ($999) and Model 112 ($799) are full-range, flat-response (FRFR) cabs designed especially for synths, keyboards, drum machines, and other electronic music instruments. There are no tubes here, but they do have a fully analog signal path.

A whole bunch of indie games to look forward to.

While we all await a return to Hyrule next week, Nintendo held its latest indie game showcase, which included everything from Game Boy-style adventures to a co-op raccoon simulator. We also finally got a release date for one of my most-anticipated games: My Arms Are Longer Now. You can catch up on the full event here.

It’s dangerous to sleep in! Take this.

I love the idea of waking up to a The Legend of Zelda themed alarm clock, but I’m less in love with the idea of silencing an alarm by handling a tiny pointed replica of the Master Sword when I’m still half asleep. The alarm clock, and a collection of other Zelda-themed items, will be available as part of an upcoming Banpresto merch lottery in Japan.

<em>The Master Sword alarm clock will slowly drain your health hearts until you extract the sword.</em>
<em>You can physically smash the Clay Pot Piggy Bank to retrieve your money, and every time you insert a coin it plays a rupee sound effect.</em>
<em>A quick nap on the Fairy Spring Pillow should replenish your energy.</em>

No Man’s Sky gets a little spookier.

Just in time for its launch on the iPhone — which is out today — the space exploration game is getting its fifth major update of the year. It’s called “Forsaken” and tasks players with searching for “rare haunted tech or biological horrors.” As always, the update is totally free.

McDonald’s and Lenovo made a french fries-shaped mouse from recycled Happy Meal toys.

The mouse features a rechargeable battery, three DPI presets, Bluetooth or 2.4Ghz wireless connectivity, a carrying case that unzips into a mouse pad, and its housing is made from 60 percent recycled plastic sourced from returned Happy Meal toys. Unfortunately just 4,000 of them were made and only sold in China last week. To the eBay!

The FCC approves Amazon Leo’s $11.5 billion Globalstar acquisition.

The deal was announced in April and is expected to close in 2027. It gives Amazon Globalstar’s constellation of 25 satellites and its spectrum — a welcome boost given its stalled launch timeline — and means Leo will now power the satellite services for Apple’s supported iPhones and Apple Watches.

Substack and Beehiiv want to monetize your podcast.

Both newsletter platforms have helped host podcasts for a while, and now they’re getting into the money side. Last week Substack announced an early access program for dynamic sponsorship placements, with programmatic ads coming “soon.” Smaller rival Beehiiv followed up yesterday, though has both types of audio ad ready to use right now.

SK Hynix says memory shortages will last through 2030.

It’s a time frame the company has suggested before. It says a “virtuous cycle” (well, virtuous for memory manufacturers at least) is seeing AI productivity gains lead to increased demand, maintaining pressure on supply even as SK Hynix ramps up production. It’s already signed agreements to sell more than half the RAM it’ll produce through 2028.
