Elon Musk loses against OpenAI in court, again.

A month after a jury dismissed Elon’s claims in the Musk v. Altman case, US District Judge Rita Lin dismissed an xAI lawsuit accusing OpenAI of stealing trade secrets and poaching employees. This time, it was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can’t be refiled, unlike when she dismissed the case in February.

The judge wrote in her ruling that continuing the case “would be futile.”

MSI’s new Claw gaming handheld starts at $1,699.

That’s according to Best Buy’s listing for the MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus — and it’s “early bird” pricing, MSI’s Anne Lee tells The Verge. After retailers run out of their first batches of units, MSI expects them to sell the handheld for $1,799, like MSI’s US store already is.

Today’s Vergecast: # The **epic** story of Markdown.

Markdown is a system for writing that makes it readable to both humans and computers. It’s all about the symbols. You use - to make a list, * for emphasis, ** for even more emphasis. Brackets and parentheses turn into links. Right now Markdown is absolutely everywhere: people are maintaining their Claude.MD files for conversing with AI bots, and writing their notes in Markdown editors like Obsidian. So where did Markdown come from? It came from John Gruber. John joins the show, along with Anil Dash, to tell the story of where Markdown came from and how it took over the world.

(Also, if this title breaks something in your podcast player, PLEASE tell us about it. I really hope it does, and I’m sorry in advance.)

Musician Oliver Tree has died at 32 in a helicopter collision.

While on his “The World’s First World Tour” with plans to play on all seven continents, the vocalist, producer, filmmaker, and professional scooter rider was one of six people killed after two helicopters collided over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. O Globo reports that after the crash on Sunday, one of the helicopters fell into an electric car dealership’s parking lot, sparking a fire that burned dozens of cars.

Apple’s customizable Camera app might launch with the iPhone 18 Pro.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also said more third-party chatbots in Siri and modular Apple Watch faces are coming later this year, despite not making an appearance at WWDC.

Gurman also points out a few hints at WWDC about Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone, which could launch as soon as September, as well as a touchscreen Mac.

Nimble’s shareable power bank that splits into two batteries is now available.

After first debuting at CES 2026, the Champ Stack 10K, renamed to the Sharepower, is now available through Apple and Nimble’s online store for $79.95. The 10,000mAh power bank magnetically bifurcates to become a pair of 20W 5,000mAh batteries. One features a short lanyard-stye USB-C cable while the other uses a folding USB-C connector.

An LCD battery percentage showing remaining battery life is only included on one side of the Sharepower.
One half connects directly to devices using a folding USB-C connector, while the other half has a USB-C port on a 7-inch cable.
The Sharepower is available in white but later this summer it will be available with an additional liquid crystal blue or liquid crystal pink shell.

Stanford grads walkout on Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s commencement speech.

Unlike Eric Schmidt or Gloria Caulfield, Pichai didn’t mention AI. Instead, it seems the students were protesting Google’s broader politics, and chanted “Free Palestine” over Pichai’s speech as they filed out.

Snazzy Labs got their Trump Phone preorder and it’s a disaster.

Quinn Nelson is one of the lucky (?) few to actually get their hands on the T1. The Trump Mobile emails kept going to spam, the site is broken, and a customer service agent asked for his password over the phone. Spoiler: Things didn’t get better once he turned it on.

Former Andreessen Horowitz partner John O’Farrell says his colleagues are trying to buy our democracy.

In a New York Times op-ed, the venture capitalist accused his Silicon Valley colleagues of using their vast wealth to shut down debate around regulating AI. He says there needs to be a conversation about how to use AI to benefit all of society, not just the wealthy few.

A.I. is not just another technology. It could drive productivity to new heights while automating away work for millions. It could find a cure for cancer, while accelerating biological risks we’re not prepared for. It could transform how our children learn, while leaving them unable to tell real from fake. It could concentrate economic power in ways that would make the Gilded Age look quaint.
