Apple is updating its Calendar app for OS X with a new, faux-leatherless look. Speaking on stage, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering Craig Federighi quipped that “even without the stitching, the window stays right there on the screen.” The app will feature a cleaner, more minimal UI and will add integration with Maps, allowing users to add and view locations directly from the app. Apple also added continuous scrolling “so you can zip through weeks or months” as well as a new inspector to make adding and editing events much easier.

The Calendar app is part of an OS X- and iOS-wide skew away from rich skeuomorphic textures. Throughout today’s keynote, Apple made a number of jabs at the old, Scott Forstall-led software design. On demoing iOS 7, Federighi said “we ran out of felt and wood.”
