While we’re hard at work on some bigger projects, we’re also making room for the smaller things that still matter. This is where we share short, sweet updates on fixes, maintenance and small enhancements to the website from the past few weeks.

  • Release notes 26-05 //

Shipped over the last couple of weeks:

    Features

    • DARK MODE (and light mode)! Dark mode is finally here. The site now follows your system preferences across the site, or you can switch anytime from the menu. Some notes:
      • Your system preference is the default.
      • We’ve said goodbye to the hybrid experience where The Verge homepage was dark but articles were light. Your preference now follows you across the site. We may revisit this decision at some point.
      • You can switch between Dark Mode and Light Mode anytime from the menu.
    • Good news for students! Students can now subscribe to The Verge for $10/year. Just verify your school email, check out, and enjoy unlimited access to The Verge.
    • Custom AMA badges. We’ve made it easier to spot live subscriber events on the site, including AMAs, with a bright new label. Keep an eye out for these, particularly on the homepage, ahead of upcoming events.

    Improvements / Fixes

    • We had to roll out dark mode with light comments. Yes it was blinding, but now it’s (mostly) fixed. A few finishing touches are still rolling out as they’re ready.
    • Additional Dark Mode fixes and polish have been rolling out throughout the week.

    Experiments

    • Federating David Pierce. David quick posted on The Verge and that post traveled to Bluesky and Threads. It’s a baby step toward federation, but still an exciting one.

As always, feedback can be sent to product@theverge.com or left in the (now dark mode/light mode) comments!

  • Release notes 26-04 //

Shipped over the last couple of weeks:

    Features

    • Comment notifications! See that little bell in the navigation? If someone replies to or recs your comment on an article, it’ll light up so you can quickly jump back into that conversation.
    • Navigation updates for ongoing coverage. We’ve rolled out a new navigational element on our Musk v. Altman trial coverage that pulls together key context, recaps and explainers, with future stories getting similar treatment.

    Improvements / Fixes

    • Deployed a fix that enables editorial to curate a greater breadth of our content in the homepage story sets.
    • A little polish here, a little dusting there. We’re always tidying things up, especially as new features roll out.

Questions, feedback, feature requests, bug reports or passionate opinions about comment notifications? Reach out to our product crew at product@theverge.com.

  • Release notes 26-03 //

It’s been a minute since our last release notes. Not because nothing was happening. Quite the opposite. We’ve been a little busy rethinking a pretty big part of the site.

    Here’s what’s new:

    Homepage relaunch

    • We’ve rolled out a new version of the homepage, designed to be a mix of something you can browse and something you can keep up with. Part curated, part “what just happened.”
    • Read more about the changes here or listen to Nilay, Helen and David discuss it on Vergecast.

    Improvements / Fixes

    • The feed scrollbar should behave itself now. No more visual overlap.
    • Some curated story groups now include a “more to explore” link when there’s, well, more to explore.
    • Down at the bottom of the page, it’s easier to jump deeper into more on specific topics.

We’ve been keeping an eye on feedback across comments and other corners of the internet, but if you want to tell us something directly like a bug, a request, a “have you considered…” — you can holler at us here.

Promotional image showing The Verge’s redesigned homepage on a laptop and smartphone, featuring a split layout with a large featured story on the left and a chronological news feed on the right, set against a gray background with bright yellow accents.

What we’ve shipped over the last several weeks:

    Improvements / Fixes

    • Turns out that vertical text on the web can be an editorial nightmare. We removed the vertical category label hanging out to the left of content cards in your feeds.
    • We also…
      • Smoothed out small interactions and animations to make some components feel more natural
      • Addressed some necessary SEO and structural maintenance to keep things running well
      • Laid early groundwork for better ways to follow your favorite newsletters and other series

    Features

And I would be remiss not to mention that we started this Product feed, a place to share updates like these and what we’re working on. Don’t forget to join our research group.
