Only 200 prototypes of the Nintendo PlayStation were ever made, and most were destroyed when the partnership fell through. What was believed to be the last remaining prototype in existence sold at auction for $360,000 in 2020, but Julian Domanski discovered that former Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Ken Kutaragi has had one stashed away in a closet, as spotted by Time Extension. Don’t expect it to hit the auction block any time soon.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation) and People Can Fly announced that they are working together on “a prototype for a new video game codenamed Project Delta (the “Product”), based on the intellectual property rights owned by the Publisher.” Killzone revival?

Sony is just now giving its PlayStation Portal the fancy ad treatment, nearly a year and a half after its launch. Unsurprisingly, it’s aimed at families, by way of a busy dad. That tracks with Sony’s stats showing how the PS5 remote player is used.

Palworld’s crossplay update is coming soon. We don’t know exactly when, as the announcement states it’ll happen sometime late March. But expect to pal around with your friends on any platform within the next two weeks. Also, in celebration of the update, Palworld’s 25 percent off on the PlayStation store and Steam.

The PS5 has finally been bundled with the game that makes purchasing the console totally worth it. The Astro Bot PS5 bundle is $450 and goes on sale March 13th. It’s a PS5 slim model that comes with the disk drive and 1 TB of storage.

While we wait for season 2 of The Last of Us on HBO (and maybe, but probably not, a third video game) Sony is putting out a new special edition PS5 controller. It’s covered in TLOU iconography and launches on April 10th — just a few days before the show premieres.

Split Fiction, the new game from It Takes Two developer Hazelight Studios, launches today on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Because the game requires co-op play, Hazelight is bringing back the popular Friend Pass program.

In a new interview in Variety, Neil Druckmann, creative director of The Last of Us series, doesn’t seem confident the popular game turned HBO hit will get a third installment. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it,” he says in the interview.

Sony just issued a new update for the nearly 20-year-old console. This brings the software up to version 4.92 and, as Eurogamer notes, these updates are an annual occurrence to renew the Blu-ray player’s encryption key, so that you can still use the PS3 for watching new movies.

Xbox’s been hard at work bringing its exclusives to the PS5. There was Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves to start, but now it’s targeting bigger releases like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5. Microsoft announced that it was targeting Spring of 2025 for the beautiful racing game’s release and now we have a confirmed date: April 29th. You can even pre-order the game to get early access starting April 25th.

On March 4th, subscribers to PlayStation Plus Essential or higher tiers will be able to claim and download Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, and Sonic Colors: Ultimate for free.

The Elden Ring Nightreign network tests are underway, but after a rocky early-morning start developer FromSoftware is considering extra sessions. The unapologetically stressful battle royale game has three hour time blocks scheduled through the weekend, though servers for PlayStation struggled and underwent maintenance not long after the 6AM ET start.

The new Tick-Tock Shock level arrives today, while the remaining four will launch every Thursday at 9AM ET with new Special Bots to rescue. Astro Bot is also getting an update on PS5 Pros, allowing players “to enjoy an improved version of Astro Bot featuring a constant best resolution while still running at 60 frames per second.”

I’m not sure what the... heck... is going on in this new trailer, but I dig the weird and horror-y vibes of the game. It also has no map, which sounds intriguing and hopefully not terrible. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X / S, and PC.

Days Gone Remastered is launching on April 25th on PS5, Sony announced today. It has new modes, including a permadeath and a speedrun mode. If you own the PS4 version, you’ll be able to upgrade to this remastered version for $10, according to a blog post. And on PC, you can pay $10 if you own the game to get new features as well.

There were sister locations, help was wanted (a couple of times), then there was a security breach. Now the next calamity in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series involves mimics. During the PlayStation State of Play presentation, Steel Wool Productions showed off a first look at gameplay for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic. Find those mimics and dodge murderous animatronics for minimum wage when Secret of the Mimic launches June 13th.

Pixeljunk studio Q-Games is back with an ambitious looking game called Dreams of Another. Here’s the description: “Rather than destroying objects by shooting — as in traditional shooting games — here, your shots materialize and rebuild the world. This unconventional mechanic offers a gameplay experience that challenges the norms of the genre and invites players into a whole new dimension.” It launches later this year.

As leaked last week via the Playstation Store, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on August 28th, 2025, as shown in today’s State of Play show. And yes, it will actually bring back the Ape Escape-themed mode.

After being revealed at The Game Awards in December, Capcom is showing off a little more of its return to Onimusha with a new trailer. The game itself is dropping some time in 2026.

PlayStation debuted the trailer for the next Sonic racing game, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds during its February State of Play presentation. As slick as this new Sonic racing game looks, its existence begs the question: why does Sonic need to drive? He’s already quote unquote “the fastest thing alive,” driving a car would unnec— Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launches on PlayStation sometime this year.
