PlayStation’s next big State of Play kicks off soon.
The show, which will run for more than 60 minutes, begins at 5PM ET. First up, Sony is promising a “closer look” at Marvel’s Wolverine, which launches on September 15th.

It’s given players experiences like God of War, The Last of Us, and Final Fantasy VII alongside technological innovations from CD-ROMs all the way up to 4K, VR, and cloud gaming. There have even been attempts at portable gaming with the PSP and Vita. Across multiple generations the company has been a pioneer, starting with the original PlayStation and continuing with the PS5.

BeamNG.drive is finally coming to console.
The vehicle physics simulator arrived on PC more than 10 years ago, and now it’s coming to the PlayStation 5. It’s a great game if you just want to drive around and smash into things, but it also has an extensive car customization system, time trials, and different scenarios to complete, like deliveries.

Sony suddenly shuts down multiplayer for one of its earliest PS5 exclusives.
The company pulled the plug on multiplayer for Destruction AllStars, a game about smashing cars that launched in February 2021, due to “ongoing technical issues.” Destruction AllStars was also delisted from the PlayStation Store earlier on Tuesday.

Managed Democracy now manages DLSS and FSR support.
Helldivers 2 is getting upscaling support on PC and consoles on May 27th. In a blog post, Arrowhead Studios announced an upcoming patch will add DLSS, FSR, XeSS, and PSSR support. It will also add optimizations like VRR on PS5, and Nvidia Reflex for reduced latency on PC.

Sony’s other PS Plus plans are going up in price too.
When it announced price hikes this week, Sony focused on the cheapest Essential tier. As we suspected though, now the new prices are live, Extra and Premium have gone up too. Extra now starts at $16.99 per month, while Premium is $19.99.

Summer Game Fest is getting off to an early start.
June is always packed with video game events, and it looks like Sony is getting a jump on things with its next State of Play, which will stream on June 2nd. The event will last more than an hour, and include another look at Insomniac’s Wolverine game.

Scuf’s new pro-grade wireless PS5 controller has buttons on its sides.
The $219.99 Scuf Omega offers four rear paddles, two unique side buttons, trigger stops, five “G-Key” macro buttons, plus numerous other settings configurable through the Scuf mobile app. You can also swap its magnetic face plate, and remove all of the face buttons, if need be. Its TMR joysticks also set it apart from Sony’s $200 DualSense Edge, though it lacks adaptive triggers and haptics.

Remember that mod for running Linux on PlayStation 5 consoles? It turns out that people are using it as a base to install the open-source RPCS3 PlayStation 3 emulator, which allows Sony’s newer console to read physical PS3 discs.

The next Call of Duty game will finally move on from the PS4.
Call of Duty games have released on the PS4 since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, but the upcoming entry in the series won’t launch on Sony’s last-gen console, according to the Call of Duty X account. A recent viral X post claimed that the game, rumored to be subtitled Modern Warfare 4, was being tested on the PS4. Last year’s game, Black Ops 7, did launch on last-gen consoles.

Roblox now has a native PS5 app.
The new app is “smoother and more responsive, with up to 30% faster load times,” Roblox says. Roblox initially came to PS4 and PS5 in October 2023.

Sony’s wireless gaming earbuds now come in transparent purple.
The InZone Buds lineup made for PS5 and PC have a third color option: Glass Purple. Next to white and black, purple is easily the most stunning choice, albeit the most fingerprint-prone. The sometimes glossy, sometimes matte-textured see-through plastic is used on every component, from the charging case and USB-C transmitter to the earbuds themselves. Professor Layton is coming to PC and PlayStation for the first time.
Arriving later this year, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will be available on PlayStation 5 and Steam in addition to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. There’s still no firm release date for this puzzle-filled title just yet, but you can check out the latest trailer below.

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a free PS5 Pro update on Wednesday.
The update includes three PS5 Pro-specific visual modes:
- Ray Tracing Pro, which targets 40fps on VRR-enabled displays or 30fps “otherwise”
- Ray Tracing, which has “select ray tracing enhancements” and runs at 60fps
- Performance, which offers up to 90fps on VRR displays “while maintaining high image fidelity”

PlayStation is going to scan players into its games.
As part of a new initiative called The Playerbase, people can apply to have their likeness incorporated into PlayStation titles. Initially, one person will be selected to appear in Gran Turismo 7, but Sony says it looks forward to “expanding The Playerbase as additional PlayStation Studios participate.”

PlayStation is acquiring Cinemersive Labs, a “machine learning and computer vision company.”
Sony says the team at Cinemersive Labs will join Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Visual Computing Group and “contribute to our broader efforts in advancing state of the art visual computing within games.”

Saros looks like another showcase game for Sony’s DualSense controller.
Housemarque’s previous game, Returnal, used the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to great effect, and Saros will take advantage of those features too, as shown in a new trailer. The game is set to launch on April 30th.
