Today I’m toying with the Lego Game Boy and comparing it to OG.

The brick version is even better than I imagined: an incredibly faithful, fun, and clever build. You can press every button, spin every wheel; designers nail the curves and recreate almost every label. For $48 at Costco (in-person) or $60 at Amazon, it’s even relatively affordable. (I bought it myself.)

Pokémon TCG Pocket is running it back.

Deluxe Pack ex, the newest Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion, will feature reprinted cards from multiple previously-released sets. But this time around, many of the cards will feature fancy new artwork, and each Deluxe pack will include at least one high-rarity card. The expansion will be available from September 29th to October 29th.

Hades II players on Switch 2 in TV mode can have upscaled 4K or 120fps, but not both.

But Supergiant Games’ Greg Kasavin tells The Verge that if players specify 4K instead of Automatic in system settings, they can force the game to output an internally upscaled 4K / 60fps image and throw away the extra fps.

Some GBA classics coming soon.

Next week is shaping up nicely for Switch Online subscribers, as the service will be getting both the cult platformer Klonoa: Empire of Dreams, and the puzzler Mr. Driller 2. Both will be available starting on September 25th.

The Galaxy keeps expanding.

Nintendo just added Super Mario Galaxy 2 to its music streaming app (the first is already there). This comes just a few days after announcing a Galaxy bundle coming to the Switch and the title of the next Mario movie which is, you guessed it, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Head back to Hyrule later this year.

If you’re jonesing for a little more Zelda, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will be out pretty soon, launching on the Switch 2 on November 6th. Here’s a taste of what to expect.

Spring is shaping up to be pretty busy (and weird).

Nintendo keeps announcing games due out next spring, and the latest is Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which continues to look delightfully bizarre.

What even is this thing?

During the Nintendo Direct Showcase, Big Red showed off the latest weird-ass thing to come out of it’s design lab — a talking flower. Specifically, the talking flower that shows up all over Super Mario Wonder (and is voiced by the new Mario himself, Kevin Afghani.) We know it talks, but is not an interactive toy which begs the question...why? A question that, knowing Nintendo, will never truly be answered.

Wonder some more.

The excellent side-scroller Super Mario Bros. Wonder is getting a Switch 2 edition, which will include some new co-op gameplay. It’s out next spring.

So can Yoshi read?

A new Yoshi platformer is incoming, called Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. As the name suggests, it has a storybook theme and aesthetic, and it looks like a cozy little adventure. It’s out on the Switch 2 next spring.

Things are heating up.

Mario Tennis is back with the impressive looking new sports title Fever. Among the changes for the new game are specialized rackets that do things like shrink your opponents of freeze them with ice. Plus, there are 38 characters to play as. It sounds like it’ll be a hefty title when it launches on February 12th.

A whole new galaxy.

Well, not new exactly. But Nintendo announced that the classic 3D platforming games will both be making their way to the Switch (and Switch 2) with a bundled release launching on October 2nd. Perfect to get prepped for the upcoming Galaxy movie.

The Nintendo Today app has added special features unlocked by inaudible sounds.

Nintendo Today was updated to version 2.0 today with a new Kirby theme and exclusive content for the Nintendo Live 2025 event in Tokyo. But it will only be accessible at the event using an inaudible sound broadcasted at the venue the app will listen for to verify attendance.

Switch, too.

Finally, a way to attach Steam Deck or Switch 2 to an airplane tray table.

We’re rather fond of Mechanism accessories around here, and Siri’s latest is something I’ve never seen before: a credible, folding way to attach your handhelds to an airplane seatback without becoming a Reddit meme. Hopefully. $19, shipping today, or bundled with a Magsafe adapter for your phone for $25.

Mega Malamar is (not) your friend.

Everything about The Pokémon Company’s “My Friend Malamar” Pokémon Legends Z-A marketing blitz has felt unsettling as hell, but this new video spells it all out pretty clearly: the Dark/Psychic squid monster is using enhanced telepathy to warp people’s minds. Fun!

Fall into another Nintendo Direct.

So soon after the Kirby Air Riders Direct, Nintendo has announced yet another presentation for Friday, September 12th at 9 AM ET, which will last around an hour. I think its safe to expect more info on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or something celebrating the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros which launched on September 13th, 1985. Feel old yet?
