Foldable Phones

If you thought Samsung’s more affordable flip phone felt like an afterthought during yesterday’s Unpacked, apparently so did every major US carrier. SamMobile points out that none of Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T lists the FE, and even Samsung’s own site only offers the phone unlocked.

Doesn’t look like we’ll get a trifold tease as a “one more thing” thing here. Guess there’s always January...

There’s one more flip phone this year and this “Fan Edition” didn’t exactly get a big spot in the presentation. It’s $899, which sure, that’s a few hundred bucks cheaper than the Z Flip 7. But its... not that cheap? I dunno. It exists.

The bigger front screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 makes space for my favorite new lock screen feature: a clock the gets dynamically shorter and longer depending on your wallpaper photo. It’s on iOS 26 too, so I guess Long Clock is officially a trend.

That’s the starting price for the Z Fold 7, which goes up for pre-order starting now. Better hope those trade in deals are strong!

We are two years into the era of AI on phones and I’m just going to say it: I don’t need any more explanations about how AI can generate useful summaries of text for you. I get it! Let’s just take this for granted and not trot it out at every product launch, please? Anyway, the new foldables have lots of AI. Again.

Android and Pixel boss Rick Osterloh is here to talk about Gemini on Samsung phones. He’s plugging Circle to Search getting access to AI mode, plus Gemini Live on the Z series. Samsung and Google are good friends, Google and Samsung would like us to remember.

The newest Fold is the thinnest Samsung foldable ever, and Samsung calls it an “ultra” experience... without actually calling it an Ultra phone. Weird! But it really is super thin!

The Magic V5 will launch in China on July 2nd, and we know almost nothing about it except that Honor says it will be the slimmest around, allowing the company to reclaim the super-thin title it held with last year’s Magic V3.

Rumors have long had it that this year’s Galaxy Z Fold phone will be substantially thinner, as Samsung tries to keep up with Oppo and Honor, and now the company itself has hinted at the same.

And no, they’re not exactly surprising. But even so, a Galaxy Store listing for “Samsung Internet Browser for Fold7 and Flip7,” spotted by GalaxyClub, does give the game away a little, especially since we’re not expecting the new phones to launch for at least a month.

Earlier this year we oohed and ahhed over the thinnest foldable phone so far, and now it’s time for the lightest. Vivo product manager Han Boxiao released this clip that dramatically shows off how lightweight the upcoming X Fold 5 is, which leakers say will launch this month.

Motorola is expected to reveal its new generation of Razr flip phones soon, and leaker Evan Blass thinks we’re going to see an unusual new finish: wood. He shared a GIF showing off the Razr Plus 2025 (a.k.a. Razr 60 Ultra outside the US) in a light brown wood version, though didn’t add any details — so we don’t know if this is real wood, like in 2014’s Moto X, or something else.

Samsung has the Galaxy S25 Edge on display here at MWC, but as was the case at Unpacked, it’s strictly hands-off. Tecno, on the other hand, its Spark Slim concept phone powered on and available to handle. It’s 5.75mm thick and includes a 5,200mAh battery. And it sure is slim! So is the company’s tri-fold concept phone, which I caught sight of outside its glass case. Pretty slick, and it even has a name: the Phantom Ultimate 2.
