Steve Ballmer’s Clippers are being accused of using a fake sponsorship to get around the NBA salary cap.

Forget toilets, a report by Pablo Torre claims the ex-Microsoft CEO invested $50 million in a fraudulent tree-planting company, Aspiration, passing $28 million to Kawhi Leonard in a fake endorsement deal.

The Clippers called the accusations “provably false,” while Mark Cuban says he’s “team Ballmer,” and that the team was scammed.

Vogue has a new top editor.

But she won’t get the editor-in-chief title that Anna Wintour held for decades — the role is officially called the “Head of Editorial Content.” Editor of Vogue.com Chloe Malle was named to the position this morning.

Malle is something of a safe bet: she’s been at Vogue for 14 years, beginning with a social editor position. Her last name may be familiar: she’s the daughter of director Louis Malle and actress Candice Bergen (she’s also related to perfume industry giant Frédéric Malle).

The GSA and Microsoft announced a discount deal on Microsoft 365, Copilot, Azure, and other services, promising “potential savings of $3.1 billion in the first year” with free access to Microsoft 365 Copilot for one year.

OpenAI and Anthropic already offered similar discounts for AI access, but what’s the price in year two?

After his DC police press conference, an unnamed White House official told CNBC that a new executive order has delayed a 145 percent tariff on Chinese goods for another 90 days. That mirrors the delay put in place on May 12th, and now pushes the deadline into mid-November.

A crypto tycoon and a VC funded an experiment to literally block sunlight in California.

A University of Washington experiment with “a machine to create clouds” was shut down by the city of Alameda — because the scientists didn’t bother to tell the locals what they were up to, Politico writes. They were 20 minutes into the test when city officials ended the experiment.

Donors to the Marine Cloud Brightening Program include “cryptocurrency billionaire Chris Larsen, the philanthropist Rachel Pritzker and Chris Sacca, a venture capitalist.” Can’t wait to find out what new conspiracy theories this spawns!

Elon Musk says Samsung’s mystery $16.5 billion AI chip deal is for Tesla.

A regulatory filing surfaced Monday morning in Korea showing the underperforming electronics giant won an order to build chips for an unnamed large global tech company in a contract that runs through 2033.

Then, a few hours later, Elon Musk tweeted the arrangement was for Tesla’s “next-generation AI6 chip,” built at Samsung’s plant in Texas, confirming an earlier report by Bloomberg.

Update: Added info from Elon Musk’s tweet.

Tweet by Elon Musk reading “Samsung’s giant new Texas fab will be dedicated to making Tesla’s next-generation AI6 chip. The strategic importance of this is hard to overstate. Samsung currently makes AI4. TSMC will make AI5, which just finished design, initially in Taiwan and then Arizona.”
