It’s a bottomless pit deeper than hell.

Trump has already dug such a deep hole with his conduct that he’s invented new bolgias even Dante couldn’t have imagined. His latest posting crime is this AI-generated video which shows him throwing Stephen Colbert in a dumpster. The First Amendment is hanging on by a thread thanks to this administration, and, yes, Brendan Carr remains a dummy.

This image shut down a US accident database.

The National Transportation Safety Board disabled its public docket today after realizing an image it released in connection with a 2025 UPS airline crash could be used to reconstruct audio from a cockpit voice recorder — something it’s prohibited by law from doing. The agency cites “advances in image recognition and computational methods” as the enabling factor. (h/t to Scott Manley for pointing this out.)

    “Beach water person”.

Wired reports that the Zuckerberg empire is prepared to hire a “Beach water person” who will serve as a lifeguard, among other things. We found the relevant job listing here, but are relying on Wired for the Zuckerberg family connection. In any event, this is certainly a job title that now exists — probably for the first time. The whole job listing smells AI-generated. Please let us know if you get a callback after applying for this position.

NBC just got the Trump phone.

Yes, The Verge has been talking about the Trump phone every week, but we’re not surprised that we’re off the Mar-a-Lago VIP list. There’s still a lot more to find out when we finally get our hands on the thing — but for now, here’s basically what NBC has to report from its experience:

NBC News tested its basic features, such as calling, texting, browsing the internet and taking photos, all of which functioned normally with an activated SIM card.

Cool. It is indeed a phone. More to come.

Is it real or AI? Here’s part of how we decide.

Last week we saw clips of a Cybertruck being rescued on a California beach by a minivan. It’s a funny situation that begs for immediate coverage — like this, from The Drive. But both The Drive and the cited YouTube video hedged that it could be fake. So we also became skeptical and looked for potential AI shenanigans, after examining the license plate on the Cybertruck in the video. I asked the California DMV for comment, and it just got back to us confirming that “the vehicle plate and registration are valid for the plate number you provided.” So, at least it seems like it’s a real car.

AI promises to make lives easier, but for those in the business of truth, it’s making verification more expensive.

    Finally, receipts for your tokenmaxxing.

There are leaderboards for burning AI tokens, but now there are literal receipts. Sascha Corti, an engineer at Microsoft, just shared the implementation — from code designed by Chris Hutchinson (of course, with the help of Claude). Is it cute? Yes. Is it cursed? Also yes.

Doctor, the PC-building OR is prepped.

Yesterday I posted about my my PC woes. I successfully completed an AIO water cooling transplant, though it took me more hours than I expected. What I didn’t expect was how valuable the LED lighting setup I bought years ago from Neweer was. My apartment doesn’t have great natural light, so I’m now a big believer in having a powerful spotlight on hand to do work at home.

RAM prices are so high that I’m keeping a six-year-old PC alive.

The AIO water cooling unit for my homebuilt PC just failed, and so I briefly considered building a new system. Then I looked at current RAM/SSD prices. They’re so outrageous that I’ll indefinitely stay out of my usual five-year cycle of a rebuild. I’d love to hear from my fellow PC builders in the comments whether they’re also feeling stuck with their hardware.

The only silver lining? Maybe there’ll be less e-waste from the consumer market.

This controller has a 75-year old scream.

It’s too late at night to eat, but you’ll still enjoy this Easter egg. Turns out if you drop Valve’s Steam Controller it will let out the legendary Wilhelm Scream — an unavoidable sound if you, like Dwight Schrute, have seen over 240 films. PCGamer verified this tiny joy, citing this Reddit post from RF3D19.
