Users who install beta versions of text-input software Swype should be pleased with its latest update. No longer are custom dictionaries and settings deleted with every install, and the installation process itself is claimed to be much smoother. Rather than uninstalling and reinstalling every time an update is available, users can now sit back and let Swype update itself, without fear of losing their carefully curated dictionaries.

Other changes included slight updates to the keyboard layout, improved language control, and redesigned settings and help menus. One thing that is going away, however, is support for Android 1.6. Given the near-complete domination of Android 2.0 and above, this shouldn’t be a problem for most users.
