Virtual reality headsets promised wild new gaming experiences, but they’re also resurrecting older genres — first space simulators, and now, light gun games. Killing Floor: Incursion is the latest of these, a game designed for the Oculus Rift that uses its yet-to-be-released Touch controllers as makeshift guns, letting players take aim and fire at hundreds of horrible monsters.
Killing Floor: Incursion updates the light gun game for virtual reality
The game’s set in the same universe as multiplayer shooter Killing Floor, a game made special for its ballistics model — a chunky and powerful thing that makes landing an accurate shot on a slavering zombie feel more satisfying than in most first-person shooters. If it can maintain that sensation using Oculus’ Touch controllers, then it might have the edge in an increasing pool of new light gun games.
Correction: Developer Tripwire Interactive released more information about their game after Killing Floor: Incursion’s trailer went live, confirming that players aren’t on rails, but free to move around the various levels.
