Disney has just announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII has started filming, beginning principal photography as of today, according to a statement.
Star Wars: Episode VIII has started filming
As expected, the followup to The Force Awakens, directed by Rian Johnson, will feature the return of the last film’s stars, including Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. But Disney is also confirming a few new entrants in the franchise: Episode VIII will feature Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern, as well as “talented newcomer” Kelly Marie Tran, according to the statement.
Disney released a brief video from the set, featuring Johnson in the director’s chair, picking up at a scene where — spoiler alert — The Force Awakens left off. Episode VIII is set to be released on December 15th, 2017.
