Clinton asks Facebook supporters to ‘come out’ from secret groups

In her concession speech today, Hillary Clinton thanked her supporters, and specifically called out to those who showed their support online, “even in secret, private Facebook sites.”

The line seemed to allude to groups like Pantsuit Nation, which gained late notoriety in the campaign, as thousands posted photos of themselves in Clinton’s trademark outfit. The group was invitation-only, but that did not stop millions from joining.

“To the millions of volunteers, community leaders, activists and union organizers who knocked on doors, talked to their neighbors, posted on Facebook — even in secret private Facebook sites,” Clinton said to applause, starting at about 51 minutes into the video above. “I want everybody coming out from behind that and make sure your voices are heard going forward.”

The election, of course, did not come out out the way those supporters hoped, as the expected celebration instead marked Donald Trump’s shocking ascendance. Still, her speech included a note of hope for young women in the country. “To all of the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams,” she said.
