Alto’s Adventure was one of 2015’s best video games, a meditative snow ride dressed as a snowboard stunt fest. Creators Built by Snowman didn’t release a new game in 2016, but they did announce their new project Where Cards Fall for 2017. And now, they’ve announced a second game for next year, Distant, which the studio will be supporting in the capacity of publisher and creative partner.

Created by Slingshot & Satchel — the game will be the two-person studio’s “maiden” release — Distant is a platformer focused, in the words of Built by Snowman’s Ryan Cash, “on the elegance of movement.”

Killscreen has a nice interview with Cash, announcing the game and explaining the general themes, while still being coy about how the game actually works. “Distant takes you on a wondrous voyage through pastel dreamscapes, to prevent a calamity from consuming the world you once knew,” says Cash. “Along the way, you’ll confront an inescapable past, and learn how much you’re willing to sacrifice in your search for solace.”
Details are still vague about the game, and the trailer doesn’t offer many clues. But Killscreen’s interview ends with a promise that Distant’s official website will be “gradually updated to reveal more of the game.” So if you must be the first to know, then you know what to bookmark.
