Earlier this week Fitbit introduced a new “smart” fitness watch with a color LCD display, called the Fitbit Blaze, which many people saw as an attempt to compete with Apple Watch. In a video interview this morning with The Verge, Fitbit co-founder and CEO James Park said comparisons to Apple Watch are logical but superficial observations, and that the Blaze is targeted at Fitbit’s “core audience” of active users.

Park also said that the Blaze watch is technically capable of supporting third-party applications, even though it doesn’t do that yet, and responded to the recent class-action lawsuit filed against the company for allegedly inaccurate heart rate tracking.
