Destiny’s mega-expansion / massive overhaul The Taken King is launching next week, and it’s being promoted with a new live-action trailer. Three guardians land inside the titular king’s giant floating fortress, the Dreadnaught, and they blast a few new enemies with hand cannons and flaming hammers before coming face to face with Oryx himself. Their hyperkinetic brawling is soundtracked by Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog,” which is being recycled from another recent trailer that focused on gameplay.
This new Destiny: The Taken King trailer is pure sci-fi hype

This isn’t the first Destiny ad to use live-action, of course. Developer Bungie gave fans one of their earliest looks at the Destiny universe with a live-action trailer in 2013, and the company released another (also featuring Led Zeppelin) before the vanilla game’s release this time last year. This one was directed by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, TRON: Legacy), and a truncated version is set to premiere tonight during the NFL’s season-opening game on NBC.
To be honest, I could care less about the classic backing music or Oryx’s awesome sword: I’m just excited that players are getting a Ghost with some personality and a narrative worth caring about. This trailer does a great job of showing off both.
Destiny: The Taken King comes out September 15th.
