Well, that was fast: Mr. Robot was renewed for a second season by USA yesterday afternoon, hours before its premiere was set to air. The hacker-centric Christian Slater drama — described as a “digital samurai story” by The Verge’s Russell Brandom in his review yesterday — has been an unqualified critical success for the network, winning awards and recognition from South by Southwest and the Tribeca Film Festival well in advance of its TV debut. The show’s premiere was also made available to stream before its USA air date, and the viewing numbers — 2.6 million people over almost a month, according to Deadline — were plenty convincing when it came to securing its renewal. So if you haven’t had a chance to check the show out yet and you’re worried about investing in a new show, fear not — there’s plenty of Mr. Robot on the horizon.
