Adele’s ‘Hello’ is the first song ever to sell a million downloads in a week

Adele continues to break records with “Hello,” the debut single from her upcoming album 25. In the week since she released the song, the video broke the record for the most Vevo views in a single day and became the second-fastest video to reach 1 million views on YouTube. Now “Hello” has another record attached to its name: it just became the first song ever to sell 1 million US downloads in a single week, according to Billboard. It is also, unsurprisingly, the No. 1 track on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart right now.

The track sold 1,112,000 downloads in the week following its release. The last song to hold the single-week download record was Flo Rida’s 2009 hit “Right Round,” which saw just 636,000 downloads, Billboard reports.

“Hello” also saw 61.6 million streams in its first week, a number surpassed only by Baauer’s viral hit “Harlem Shake.” “Hello” is Adele’s fourth song to top the Billboard Hot 100, but her first to debut there. 25 comes out on November 20th.
