Apple is once again setting new pre-order records for its new iPhone. After announcing a new "overnight" record last week, Apple is revealing today that it has sold more than 4 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets in just 24 hours. "iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do," says Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement. "Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can’t wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday."
Apple sold a record 4 million iPhones in 24 hours
The demand for the new iPhones is exceeding the initial pre-order supply according to Apple: "While a significant amount will be delivered to customers beginning on Friday and throughout September, many iPhone pre-orders are scheduled to be delivered in October." The impressive sales come after a frustrating pre-order process revealed that iPhone 6 Plus devices appear to be in short supply. While Apple doesn’t always reveal numbers for its iPhone pre-orders, the company sold 2 million iPhone 5 handsets within 24 hours and 5 million in the first opening weekend of sales. Apple sold a combined 9 million iPhone 5s and 5c devices last year during the initial retail weekend.
