Last fall, HBO announced that it would be giving comedian John Oliver his own show, and now we know when it’ll arrive. The weekly satirical news program Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will make its debut on Sunday, April 27th at 11PM ET, marking Oliver’s first real role as the lead of his own program. Last Week Tonight sounds like it’ll stick closely to what Oliver did while writing and appearing on on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart — HBO’s announcement says Oliver’s show will be “satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events.” Given Oliver’s successful stint last year hosting The Daily Show while Stewart took a leave of absence, it’s not surprising to see him getting his shot at his own show — but we’ll have to wait until the series makes its premiere to see if Oliver can truly build his own brand away from Comedy Central.
‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’ is coming to HBO on April 27th
