HTC has sold “around five million” of its flagship smartphone, the One, since launch. The impressive figure will abate fears that HTC is dead in the water (the company is struggling internally) but does confirm what we all suspected: it isn’t able to keep up with Samsung in sales. The company’s largest rival in the Android smartphone space recently announced that it’s shipped 10 million Galaxy S4s in less than a month.
‘Around 5 million’ HTC One phones sold since launch
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, an unnamed executive noted that “orders are pretty good so far and are still more than what we can supply.” He blames component shortages for the supply issues, and says the company will have a better idea of how its phone is doing next month.
Sales of five million could help HTC bounce back from a string of disastrous financial results. However, given the reportedly poor performance of its Facebook phone, the First, it may not be enough to reestablish the company’s place in the top ten global smartphone sales charts.
