It’s been close to four years since the release of director Neill Blomkamp’s first and only feature film; apartheid allegory District 9 won many over with its depiction of discrimination against aliens in a near-future South Africa. Blomkamp’s next movie, Elysium, looks to explore similar themes; Matt Damon plays a man caught between the poverty of a ravaged Earth and the beautiful floating city of Elysium, where humanity’s privileged class sequesters itself away. Elysium has been in development for a while and recently suffered a delay, but a theatrical trailer is now available — and from first impressions, the film may well have been worth the wait. It’s out on August 9th.
