Apple’s finally getting ready to talk about its new iPads, and before getting to the new products Tim Cook gave an update on how the iPad got to where it is today. So far, Apple has sold 170 million iPads since it launched three and a half years ago in April 2010. That’s up from the 100 million iPads Apple said it had sold just one year ago at the iPad mini introduction. To go along with it, there are 475,000 iPad apps in the App Store — nearly half of the 1 million total apps available. Time will tell just how far the brand-new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display can push that sales trend up over the next year.
