Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 announcement earlier today included news that Samsung, HTC, Huawei, and Nokia would all be making handsets using the new software. Just as that list leaves out some big names, the list of US carriers who are endorsing Windows Phone 8 is also mixed. PC Magazine reached out to each carrier and AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile confirmed that they will be carrying the phones, but Sprint and smaller carriers like Cricket and MetroPCS all responded with a resounding maybe.

T-Mobile’s response to Windows Phone 8 was perhaps the most enthusiastic. The carrier published an official blog post with details on its success with Windows Phone thus far, noting that sales have doubled in the past eight months, thanks in part to the Lumia 710’s appeal to feature-phone users.
It’s not surprising that the smaller carriers are shy about jumping feet first into Windows Phone, but perhaps, like us, they’re waiting to see what new features will be coming beyond today’s preview before they make a final call on the OS.
