Having launched the phone in its home market of South Korea in April, the company had sold 10 million units worldwide by October, so doubling that amount around four months later suggests that sales of the handset are, in fact, accelerating. While the figures are impressive, Samsung clearly isn’t relying on the Galaxy S II alone — the company shipped a total of 36.5 million smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2011. For comparison, Apple managed 37 million phone shipments in total, the vast majority of which were accounted for by the iPhone 4S. With details of various new devices coming out ahead of Mobile World Congress, it looks like Samsung’s strategy of a multi-faceted lineup is set to continue.
