Star Wars Uncut is a global project to re-record the original Star Wars movie in 15-second chunks. Anybody from the internet could submit a fan-made scene and, though you’ve been able to view these online for a while, the entire movie hadn’t been stitched together yet. That’s changed now, as the curators have posted their Director’s Cut — a full, feature-length, shot-for-shot retelling of Episode IV: A New Hope. It’s truly a sight to behold, with amateur live-action footage rubbing up against machinima, action figures, and Microsoft Paint animations. You should probably just watch it for yourselves, but our favourite parts were the trash compactor scene shot in a bathtub with a rubber chicken, and the reinterpretation of Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s lightsaber battle as the chess scene from Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal.
