Google Maps for Android 6.0 just hit Android Market, and it’s a pretty big update: it adds indoor maps of select airports, malls, and retail stores in the US and Japan. Highlights of the initial list include the Mall of America, Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports, San Francisco International, and various Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, IKEA, and Home Depot locations. We just tried it out and it’s quite well-done: a toggle appears as you zoom in on a building that lets you select each floor, and features like restrooms and retail shops pop right up. Additional indoor maps are promised soon, and if you’re a business owner you can upload floor plans to get your location added as well.
