NTT Docomo has announced that it will begin offering the Sharp Aquos SH-01D on December 2nd. The phone accelerates the Android smartphone feature race a bit by taking a 4.5-inch 720p display and combining it with a parallax barrier for glasses-free 3D. Available in blue, black, or white, it also features a 12.1-megapixel camera with optical stabilization and will also feature some better-than-average water resistance. Its processor is the dual-core TI OMAP4430 clocked at 1GHz, along with the usual set of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, DLNA, NFC — all running on Android 2.3.

It’s no surprise that Japan is the first place we’ve seen a 3D display on a phone with this resolution and, sadly, it’s also no surprise that we shouldn’t expect it in the US, even though the phone made its way through the FCC. No worries, though, there’s a stateside feature race brewing that should keep you occupied for some time.
