Right on schedule, AT&T has started throttling the speeds of its heaviest unlimited data users — making its deprecated unlimited plans as unattractive as its tiered plans. A screenshot posted on Reddit shows a text from the carrier to one such user, suggesting that they switch to Wi-Fi for their internet needs. Another Redditor also claims to have received this text after 11GB of monthly data usage. While AT&T claims 98 percent of its users won’t cross the 2GB limit of its tiered plans, the choice for unlimited data users seems clear — pay for tiered data, or continue using unlimited data knowing that AT&T can knock you back into the dial-up ages if you cross the imaginary line they’ve drawn.
